At Callowell, our pupils are confident, creative and caring and these core values underpin all areas of our EYFS curriculum. We promote inclusivity and equality, where all of our children are of equal worth and differences are celebrated.
Our EYFS curriculum aims to provide the opportunities and experiences for your child to develop as an independent, confident and successful learner, who will begin to know how to make a positive contribution to their community and environment. We aim to ignite your child’s curiosity and learning in an inclusive and vibrant learning environment, sharing and celebrating our successes along the way.
In the EYFS, we understand that personal, social and emotional well-being and high levels of involvement will have a positive effect on a child’s development and in turn, will lead to successful pupil outcomes. Through positive interactions and carefully planned learning experiences, we focus on giving your child the opportunities and support to enable them to reach their full potential. This will ensure that your child is beginning to gain the knowledge and skills needed in preparation for their future successes.
We hope that all of our children will be inspired and motivated to actively participate in and enjoy the curriculum, enabling them to transition into key stage one with the confidence and character to meet the challenges of an ever changing world.
Our EYFS curriculum is defined by the EYFS Statutory Framework and Development Matters in the Early Years Foundation Stage (non-statutory guidance materials to support teachers in implementing the statutory requirements of the EYFS)
Our goal is to ensure that all of our children are safe, happy, engaged and learning in our EYFS setting. We provide an environment which enables each of our children to display high levels of motivation, creativity, energy and perseverance, both with and without an adult. Our continuous provision is dynamic and has a specific learning focus to enable all children to engage and explore. We offer a balance of child-initiated, adult initiated and adult-led learning, using continuous play provision, enhanced provision and small group activities, in addition to some whole class teaching and learning activities.
Across the EYFS, our children are provided with those rich learning opportunities which will spark ideas and explorations and develop the learning characteristics that will support their lifelong learning. Through our EYFS curriculum the children will demonstrate their ability to:
- play and explore
- learn actively
- create and think critically
We support your child’s learning and development through the observation, assessment and planning cycle. Using our base line assessments, undertaken during your child’s first weeks in our setting, we can assess their individual starting points. Through positive interactions, enabling environments and with a clear learning intent underpinned by the Characteristics of Effective Learning, we aim to deepen and extend your child’s existing skills, knowledge and understanding across the seven areas of learning.
