Attendance Matters
Regular attendance is essential for your child’s success. Unless they are ill or have another valid reason, children are expected to attend school every day.
The Department for Education (DfE) sets a national attendance target of 95%. Any child with attendance below 90% is classed as a persistent absentee.
What the data says about the impact of poor attendance:
- Children with 95–100% attendance are 30% more likely to meet expected standards in reading, writing & maths than those at 90–95%
- Persistent absence (missing 10%+ of school days) now affects 1 in 5 pupils and puts them at high risk of falling behind.
- Children with persistent absence (below 90% attendance) between ages 6–16 are 3.9 times more likely to be NEET (Not in Education, Employment or Training) at 16–18
Holidays in term time:
Please note that holidays during term time are not authorised. Missing school disrupts learning and has a significant impact on academic progress. Over time, poor attendance can lead to lower achievement and reduced opportunities.
Together, we can ensure every child reaches their full potential by attending school every day.
