Beech Class: Year 1 & 2

General information 

  • Our PE days are on a Monday and Wednesday this half term. This is subject to change on a half termly basis. Our PE kit consists of: a navy P.E top, blue/black shorts/jogging bottoms and trainers. Please ensure suitable P.E kit is provided in the cold weather.
  • Reading diaries must be in school each day. The expectation is that each child will read at home a minimum of three times a week. This will be checked by the class teacher on a Friday, and it is important that parents sign the diary. 

Spring Term 2026

In English this term we will be reading Five Minutes' Peace, The Tin Forest and The Lighthouse Keeper's Lunch, these texts will be influencing our writing outcomes such as diary entries, non-chronological reports and story writing.

In Maths we are covering:

Year 1: Addition and Subtraction, Measurement, Fractions and Geometry (position and direction)

Year 2: Multiplication and Division, Measurement and Fractions

In History, we will be looking at Changes Within Living Memory, exploring toys over time.

 In Geography, we will be exploring The United Kingdom

In Science, we will be studying Everyday materials

 In Art, we will be focusing on portraiture looking at famous portraits such as Mona Lisa, The Girl with the Pearl Earring & Van Gogh’s self-portraits​ we will explore shape, space & colour as well as paint and pencils.​

In Music, our unit is: Exploring sounds

In R.E.W, our Big question will be: What is it like to be brought up in a Muslim home in the UK today?

In PSHE, our key units are:

Dreams and Goals (Spring term 1)

Healthy me (Spring term 2) 

In P.E our key units are Dance and Games
