Spring Term 2025
Our theme that will drive our learning this term is ‘The Ancient Maya’
In History and Geography, we will be discovering where and when the Maya built their civilisation, how they lived, their culture and their legacy on the world today.
In English, we will be reading ‘Holes’ by Louis Sachar. We will be writing about how to survive Camp Green Lake, as well as writing narrative poetry and informal letters, as if we were writing home to our families.
In Spring 2, we will be reading ‘Freedom’ by Catherine Johnson, an action-packed book about a boy’s experience of slavery in Britain. We will be immersing ourselves in character’s feelings and experiences through diary writing as well as researching slave owners and creating biographies.
In Science, Year 6 will be learning about evolution and inheritance, exploring how fossils provide information about living things millions of years ago and how animals and plants adapt to evolve.
Year 5 will be exploring properties and changes of materials, using knowledge of solids, liquids and gases to decide how mixtures might be separated, including through evaporating.
In Maths, Year 5 will be looking at the following units:
Multiplication and Division
Geometry: position and direction
Fractions, decimal and percentages
Measurement: length, mass and capacity
In Maths, Year 6 will be focusing on the following units:
Addition, subtraction, multiplication and division
Fractions: calculating
Ratio and proportion
Measurements: converting units
Measurement: area and volume
Algebra
In R.E, will be answering the key questions:
Why do Hindus want to be good?
Why is the Torah important to Jewish people?
In Art, we will be creating artwork with a focus on painting. Henry Rosseau will be our inspiration for our artwork where will be learn to paint rainforest landscapes and animals.
In D.T, we will be learning all about cooking and nutrition, adapting a recipe and then making it, using the design, make and evaluate skills.
In Music, we will be focusing on ‘Composing and Chords in Spring 1 and then how musical styles connect us in Spring 2.
In French, our unit foci are:

We have lots of fun theme experiences planned for the term so that the children can immerse themselves within the subject matter and make meaningful connections.
