Beech Class (Year 2)

Autumn 1: In Beech class, we are learning about Our Country with a specific focus on Transport this term and Guy Fawkes next term. We have been writing retells, list poems and non-chronological reports in English which are all linked to our theme books. In Maths, we have been improving our knowledge of Place Value, Shape and Addition and Subtraction. In other subjects, we have been exploring the countries of the UK as well as human and physical features across the UK and in Stroud. We have learned about Edwin Beard Budding inventing the lawnmower and have even been to Museum In The Park to see it! This has been the inspiration for our DT project - a lawnmower model with axles and wheels. All of these tasks have given us lots of opportunity to enhance our knowledge and understanding of materials and the suitability of materials for different purposes.

Autumn 2: This term, we have been focusing on Guy Fawkes and the Gunpowder Plot! We have been writing instructions, diary entries and firework poems in English. In Maths, we have been focusing on Subtraction and Geometry. In other subjects, we have linked the Gunpowder Plot to our learning. For example, understanding how the Gunpowder Plot was significant and has impacted our present day, writing a letter to Guy Fawkes to tell him which materials would work best for certain objects, and creating our own firework dances in PE. In Art, we have been looking at abstract maps and had a go at making our own felt!
