Sycamore Class ( Year 6)

A warm welcome to Sycamore Class page!

Class Teacher: Miss Hocking

Teaching Partner: Mrs Neeley

They are now at the end of their secondary school journey. The intent of Year 6 is to take full responsibility for every area of school life. From being buddies to Pine Class, House Captains, Reading Ambassadors, School Council and 'monitoring' jobs, Year 6 pupils lead to school in many ways.

General information

  • Your child should come to school in their PE kit on Tuesdays and Wednesdays this half term. This is subject to change on a half termly basis. Our PE kit consists of: a yellow P.E top, blue/black shorts/jogging bottoms and trainers. Please ensure suitable P.E kit is provided in the cold weather.
  • KS2 SATs begin on the 13th May 2024. There will be SATS information sessions for parents early next year-dates TBC but will be on the school calendar.
  • Reading diaries must be in school each day. The expectation is that each child will read at home a minimum of three times a week. This will be checked by the class teacher on a Friday, and it is important that parents sign the diary.
  • We know there will be secondary school visits this year. Please inform the office as soon as you have any tours booked in, thank you.

Our theme this term, that will drive our learning, is Ancient Greece. Where there is a meaningful link, we will connect children’s learning experiences. In History, we will be using primary and secondary sources to learn about what life was like in Ancient Greece. We will then use our geography skills to compare Modern Greece with Ancient Greece, focusing on physical features and how they might have positively and negatively impacted Ancient Greek people. We will be celebrating our learning by having an Ancient Greek Day where we will design our own Olympic Games. In Art, we will be using a range of brush strokes to design a Parthenon painting. In D.T, we will be making our own Greek dish and learning how to adapt our cooking as we go. We will be hosting a class debate lead by our school council representatives and will reflect on the culture of fairness.

We have lots of fun theme experiences planned for the term so that the children can immerse themselves within the subject matter and make meaningful connections. On this class page, there is a copy of our Parent Overview that will detail some of these. This gives an insight into what the children will be learning about in each subject.

If you have any questions, please feel free to come and speak to us.
